I Wanna Destroy is a durational audio performance and dynamic virtual reality environment created by Erika Anderson (aka EMA), and Portland-based developer Zach Krausnick in conjunction with Chroma.
Bad decisions. Years of sparse dilapidated living rooms. A discarded artifact of a stranger's longing for connection. These three touchstones comprise a performative installation and bridge into memory-space wrought from nostalgia, distance, guilt, and transcendence. I Wanna Destroy attempts to illustrate the disconnect between what your loved ones think you are and what you know you really are, what they wish your life to be and what it really is. They see you as an angel but you know you're really a reptile.
Audience members are invited to immerse themselves in this shifting virtual space through the use of an Oculus Rift. The wearer's field of vision is then fed back into real space via digital projector in a densely layered semiotic experience knit together through EMA's compelling live musical score.
